U17s Win; U18s Up This Weekend

Our U17 Premier team have qualified for the last 16 of the Umbro FAI U17 Cup courtesy of a 7-1 victory over Salthill Devon on Saturday.

Stephen D’Arcy got the scoring going from the penalty spot early on. Conor Drinan doubled the lead when he capitalised on a defensive blunder from the Galwegians.

Leading 2-0 at the interval, Carrigaline went up through the gears in the second-half and were rewarded for their efforts when left-back Christian Buttimer headed home from right-back Jack O’Mahony’s fine cross.

Ill-discipline from the visitors would then ease Carrig’s difficulties, Salthill succumbing to no less than three red cards.

There was time for Stephen D’Arcy to grab his second and for substitutes Dean Farrissey (2) and Cillian Hayes (1) to get in on the scoring.

Attention now turns to the Umbro FAI Youths Cup and the third round tie between our Youths and Leeside.

Leeside were comfortable winners when the sides met in the League Cup earlier in the season. John Cotter’s men have made considerable progress since then, however, and will hope that home advantage will see them through to the fourth round draw.

Kick-off in Ballea Park on Saturday is at 5pm.
