U16 Girls Advance as U18s Suffer Defeat   16/11/2016

U16 Girls National Cup
Lakewood Athletic 0 Carrigaline United 4

The 16s travelled in hope out to our traditionally closest rivals Lakewood on Saturday 5th Nov. Already the girls have beaten them 4-1 in the home league fixture to move top of the 16 premier League but cup football is cup football and so they needed to get themselves up for the task.

After a fairly tame 1st half the teams turned around 0-0. The Carrig girls finally burst into life in the 2nd half and ran out comprehensive 4-0 winners.

Delighted to see Adaeze Ikebuasi get the all important first goal after coming on at half time. Further goals from Rachael O’Regan, Chloe Hayes (2 absolute screamers) and a fine effort from Amy O’Regan saw off the Ovens girls’ challenge and into the next round we go.

U18 Girls National Cup
Carrigaline United 2 Cregmoregalway 6

The next day saw our U18 girls host a much vaunted Cregmoregalway side.

The game began in helter skelter fashion with both sides going for it from the start.

Carrig took the league in the 20th minute from a great Cristina Dring finish but turned over at half time 2-1 down after a couple of very uncharacteristic defensive errors.

The Galway girls’ tails were up and they really went for the jugular after half time. 2-1 was quickly turned into 6-1 and the game was gone. Rachael O’Regan tagged on a consolation for Carrig at the death for a 6-2 loss.

The Galway team were helped by a sloppy/tired defensive display but they literally did not miss a chance. Carrigaline had as many chances as them but we couldn’t convert the 5 or 6 one on ones we had.

The very best of luck to Cregmoregalway in the semis.
