U13 B Record First Victory   07/05/2016

Sitting at the bar with a cup of tea on Friday evening, Willie’s phone beeped. Opening the text message, his face lit up: “Our U13 B team just won their first match!”

In an era when money, mind-games, and professionalism are taking the sport out of sport, the first victory of a young team after months of trying retains its power to delight.

The success of the U13 B was a while in the making. Last season, with player numbers outgrowing our three competitive teams, Padraig O’Farrell and John McNulty started a non-competitive training group in order to prepare a team to play competitively in 2015-16. They entered the league last August, playing their first ever game at home to Lakewood. Learning all the time, the team’s results have improved in the spring, the first point arriving in a 1-1 draw with Riverstown in early April.

On Friday night, the lads went a step further, recording their first victory in emphatic style with a 5-0 victory in Ovens.

Very well done to coaches Padraig and John and to all of the players. Keep the text messages coming!
