New 3G Surface Under Construction   15/07/2018

Work began on Monday 9 July on the construction of a second all-weather surface at Ballea Park. It is a very exciting venture for the Club and will represent a very welcome addition to the already impressive facilities at our members' disposal.

What are we getting?

The existing grass pitch will be replaced by just under 8,000 square metres of all-weather carpet with spectator viewing on three sides. The all-weather surface is approved by FIFA and is guaranteed for 12 years.

Why all-weather?

The vagaries of the Irish climate have consistently frustrated use of the grass pitch at Ballea and at Shanbally over many seasons. With so many teams looking for pitch time for training and matches, the only viable solution is to introduce a second all-weather facility.

Who is carrying out the work?

Following a comprehensive tendering process, the contract for works was awarded to PST Sport Ireland Ltd. PST boast an impressive catalogue of completed projects in the Republic of Ireland and the UK and are currently installing a 3G surface at Munster Rugby's Cork headquarters at Irish Independent Park.

When will it be ready?

It is anticipated that the project will be completed by the end of September.

How is it funded?

The project is jointly funded by CUAFC fundraising and reserves and grants from the Sports Capital Programme, Cork County Council, and Football Association of Ireland. The project will be completed debt-free.
